A portrait of Romola Hollywood Councillor for Ward 2 in the Blue Mountains

Mayor Mark Greenhill

Blaxland

In nearly two decades on council, and eight as mayor, I have seen many councillors come and go. Without a doubt, Romola Hollywood is one of the hardest working and most effective I have ever seen. Her passion for the community is unsurpassed. If Ward 2 wants a strong voice around the council table, there is none better than Romola Hollywood. She has my support and I hope she will have yours.

As a long-term citizen of Ward 2, I am very pleased to endorse Romola Hollywood as a candidate in the BMCC Council elections. I have had the opportunity to witness Romola’s effectiveness in responding to and representing the concerns of Ward 2 residents in numerous ways. I see Romola standing up for the community on a broad range of issues – the environment, traffic, improvements in our towns, representing the constituency and assisting the community speak out. I see her as a listener, a connector, a doer and an advocate, always positive and proactive. Specifically, I have seen Romola represent and bring forward the more marginalised in the community – women (example through leadership on the gender equity strategy); people of diverse sexualities (example through the annual IDAHOBIT celebration); our poorest neighbours (example through convening the friendship relationship with Timor-Leste). I find Romola accessible, warm, interested, engaged, intelligent, over the issues, insightful, tireless and am right behind her in her candidacy.

Clr Romola Hollywood has successfully led the charge across NSW to double library funding, moving the motion at Blue Mountains City Council that kick started the state wide movement for change. She’s a strong and effective advocate for our public libraries and the public good.

Kevin Hardwick

Lawson

My name is Kevin Hardwick and I have lived in Lawson for 45 years. I would like to recommend Romola Hollywood to you at the council elections in Ward 2 as Councillor. I first met Romola nearly ten years ago when I asked her for council support in the Annual International Day Against Homophobia event with a rainbow flag raising ceremony. She enthusiastically agreed and has been part of the organising committee ever since. I can recommend Romola Hollywood as councillor for her committed service to the local Blue Mountains community in Ward 2.

I have found Councillor Romola Hollywood to be an effective and diligent representative who responds quickly, when an issue has arisen which needed support. The most impressive thing in having her support is the very apparent solid and ethical characteristic traits of her work for this Blue Mts region. She is a consistent hardworking and committed local representative who cares deeply about people and the beautiful and precious environment in which we live.

Sue Deane

Bullaburra

My name is Sue Deane. I have lived in the Mountains for nearly 30 years now. Councils for the Mountains have come and gone and I have not really been aware of them a whole lot or the councillors in particular in days gone by. In the last ten years I have though. I live in Bullaburra, Ward 2 and one councillor in particular has been front and centre for as long as she has been on council. Romola Hollywood seems to have endless energy and concerns for her little council world. I have had, on occasion, needed to check on something local concerning me and have had others ask me to seek help. On every occasion Romola has been seriously involved and on the move, checking and seeking information and getting back to both me and anyone else who has asked to find answers. She is genuinely interested and sees her job as a councillor as a serious business, one which she feels is the reason every councillor has been elected. I will be doing anything I can to get her re elected - we so need these sort of people to represent us.

Hazelbrook

I first met Romola Hollywood at the Magpie Markets in Lawson and I find her to be a voice for many of us in the community. Her support for carers, the vulnerable, reduction of landfill and plastic waste, community libraries, aircraft flight paths, the raising of the dam wall and the National Park's unique cultural and environmental significance are extremely important issues for me. Romola is a committed councillor and I find her extremely accessible and can tell she profoundly cares about the people of the Blue Mountains. I will be supporting for re-election to the Blue Mountains Council on 4 December 2021.

Hazelbrook

I have known Romola for a number of years and for most of that time she has been a Councillor on Blue Mountains City Council. Romola is one of the most hard working councillors I have ever met. She lives in Ward 2, and makes herself available to all who live here. She is great listener and follows through on issues that have been raised with her. She has been totally committed to big picture issues such as protecting our wonderful Blue Mountains environment, and to local issues raised by residents, such as footpaths, roads, parks and garbage collection. She is a great local representative and I would strongly endorse her for re-election.

Chris McKay

Hazelbrook

My name is Chris McKay and my wife Gina Novak-McKay have lived in Hazelbrook for over 15 years. In this time I have sought the assistance of Romola with issues that have affected us. I have always found Romola in her role as one of our BMCC Councillors to be genuinely interested in assisting us with any Council matters affecting us. In my role as the volunteer secretary of the Blue Mountains Vietnam Veterans Association Romola has been extremely generous in her time to assist us with fund raising events and in fact Romola was instrumental in assisting us to stage a fundraising in showing the movie The Odd Angry Shot at the Springwood Theatre hub. My wife and I love living in the Blue Mountains and having Councillors like Romola who genuinely enjoy assisting us resident's with Council issues.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Romola Hollywood for some years. She is an excellent representative for our ward and has always been accessible to the people she represents. Romola and I have worked together on a number of community issues ranging from footpaths to parks and have happily supported her in her role as Councillor for some time. Romola has been instrumental in many improvements in our community, Wentworth Falls Lake playground is one recent example of the projects driven by Romola’s passion for building a better community. Romola has actively supported many community project right across our Blue Mountains and has been pivotal in building a strong and resilient community across the whole region. Advocating for environmental issues that affect our city like the raising of Warragamba Dam and the new Western Sydney Airport. Romola has proven skills in management and policy giving her an insight into her role as councillor that makes her a strong advocate for us in Ward 2. Together with her sound track record and excellent abilities Romola is the sensible first choice to represent Ward 2 as a councillor in Blue Mountains City Council. It is with pleasure and confidence that I endorse Romola Hollywood as Councillor for Ward 2.
