Community Action Plan
All of our work and advocacy begins with feedback from the community
Ward 2 - Blue Mountains City Council
1. Shared Path along the GWH - West Street to Scott Avenue
I have been making representations on behalf of residents for a shared path on the Great Western Highway from West Street Wentworth Falls to Scott Avenue on the boundary of Ward 2. This is a much-needed, long-called for missing link on the GWH, to give pedestrians and cyclists a safer way to walk or cycle to and from Leura. Scoping work is happening now and consultations on the designs will take place in the next term of Council. If re-elected, you can count on my team to take an active interest in ensuring this vital active transport link is delivered in a way that works for our local community.
2. New play equipment at Wilson Park Wentworth Falls
Wilson Park is one of four neighbourhood parks that will be upgraded, consultations are underway. My team and I will work hard to ensure community priorities are reflected in the final designs.
Consultations are underway for new play equipment at Wilson Park at Wentworth Falls. Wilson Park is also now the gateway for the start of the Charles Darwin Walk and the multi day Grand Cliff Top Walk. If re-elected, my team and I will continue to advocate for further improvements to this park such as a much-needed upgrade to the public toilets.
3. Complete the loop walk around Wentworth Falls Lake
The multi-million dollar upgrade to Wentworth Falls Lake includes the completion of the 5km loop walk around the lake – many residents have raised with me what they hope the loop walk will deliver including improved wayfinding and better pedestrian safety particularly along Banksia Road. My team and I will work to ensure these issues are reflected in the final designs.
If re-elected, we will also continue to advocate for the ‘short cut’ connection from the view platform up to Banksia Road – I have been advised that through the upgrade to the Charles Darwin Walk, our Council developed new methods to construct a boardwalk while protecting the precious hanging swamp.
4. Deliver a shared path along Tableland Road and Hordern Road
Following my ongoing advocacy on behalf of local residents for better management of the increasing visitation to Lincoln’s Rock, Council will be building a shared path from the Great Western Highway to Hordern Road, and down to the car park at Lincoln's Rock. This major project will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists and aims to encourage visitors to use active transport to visit this ever-increasingly popular tourist spot. My team and I will continue to push for delivery of this vital active transport link as well as exploring with our community and Council staff other measures to effectively manage the site.
5. Upgrades to Railway Parade between Lawson and Wentworth Falls
Successive extreme weather events, including three La Niña summers during this Council term, have caused significant damage to our road network. One critical route affected is the back road from Lawson to Wentworth Falls through Bullaburra, which serves not only as a vital link for residents but also as an alternate route when the highway is closed. Council has secured Federal Government funding to restore this road and address the underlying drainage issues. My team and I are committed to ensuring effective oversight so that this important project is successfully delivered in the next Council term.
6. New play equipment at the Bullaburra Village Green
Following calls through a community petition for improvements to the amenities at Bullaburra Village Green, an upgrade to the playground is approved to be delivered in the next term of Council. If re-elected, my team and I, will be focussed on ensuring all voices are heard and all options explored for the improvements to this popular neighbourhood park.
7. Complete the missing link of footpath along Badgery Crescent Lawson
Improving safety for motorists and pedestrians along the “back road” that runs along the railway line through Ward 2 is a recurring theme in our community plan.
Local residents in north Lawson have long been calling for the missing link in the footpath along Badgery Crescent Lawson to be completed. If re-elected, my team and I will continue our advocacy for funding to construct this footpath, which we set out in our notice of motion passed at the last meeting of the Council term.
8. Delivery of the Lawson Priority Parking Precinct Plan
In response to community calls for a better plan for parking in Lawson, I successfully moved a notice of motion, calling for the delivery and implementation of Priority Parking Precinct Plan in consultation with our community. If re-elected, my team and I are committed to seeing this work happen.
9. Deliver upgrades to Golden Horizons Park
Over many years, community members have said Golden Horizons Park has been forgotten and is in urgent need of an update. Locals took their children there and now they are taking their grandchildren and the park has not changed in a generation.
In the lead up to the last election, I successfully moved a notice of motion calling for improvements to Golden Horizons Park which is now the first of four neighbourhood parks to be upgraded with funding from the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program. If re-elected my team and I will make sure our community’s voices are heard in the final consultations and delivery of the park.
10. New neighbourhood park in South Hazelbrook
Off the back of my notice of motion moved in 2021, Council completed a recreational plan for Hazelbrook - this plan developed in consultation with our community, identified the need for a park on the south side of Hazelbook. If re-elected my team and I will pursue opportunities and options for a new park in South Hazelbrook.
11. Upgrades to the Horseshoe Falls walking track and improving wayfinding and parking arrangements
In response to community concerns about the disrepair of sections of Horseshoe Falls bush tracks, I successfully moved a notice of motion calling for repairs as well as improvements to the parking arrangements on Oaklands Road. If re-elected my team and I will pursue these much-needed improvements.
12. Delivery of the footpath from Appian Way to Woodford Station
Following numerous customer service requests on behalf of residents, Council has secured funding to deliver a 280m shared path between the Appian Way and Woodford Station along Railway Parade - if re-elected, my team and I will work to ensure effective consultation takes place for the design and construction of this much-needed shared path.
13. Shade structures at Linden Park
In this term of Council, I successfully moved a notice of motion calling for shade to be installed at Linden Park. This follows years of advocacy from the local community for more shade so the park can be used by children and families at all times of the year. In the upcoming review of the Open Space and Recreation Strategy, I will be calling for a review of shade provisions in playgrounds and advocating for Linden Park to be a priority.
14. Transport for NSW to reduce speed limits in Linden to 40km/hr
For many years, Linden residents have been championing the cause to have their community made a fully 40km speed zone. I will continue to support their calls for the State Government to make this area a pilot for the Blue Mountains and for the state more broadly.
15. Safer pedestrian access and better roads along Sir Henry's Parade
With the upgrade of the Corridor of Oaks which I have advocated for over many years and now has been delivered, it is time to continue our advocacy calls for completion of other key elements of the Conservation Management Plan and deliver effective pedestrian connections between the Corridor of Oaks and Sir Henry Parkes Grave. If re-elected, my team and I will continue to pursue this important enhancement for this historic and much-loved heritage area.
